The CVTU Chapter

Trout Unlimited has over 400 chapters nationwide, serving over 300,000 members.  As Chapter #138, ours is one of the older ones, established in 1971.  CVTU is one of six TU chapters in Vermont, with more than 450 members on our official roster.  Membership in your local chapter is automatically included with membership in the national TU organization.

This CVTU Community

This page is your starting point for something new from CVTU Online: a members-only area where you can share thoughts, adventures, wisdom and wit with your fellow CVTU members.  Registration and login are required, so that we can keep things free of spam and other annoyances; we want this to be a safe and sensible space.  Non-CVTU members are welcome to register, but may be invited to join Trout Unlimited if we don't know you.

Join a Group conversation in the Members Area to ask questions, share answers, and maybe find someone to join you on your next fishing trip.

Friends and Partners

CVCTU partners with a variety of other organizations who share our goals and interests.  We also recognize a range of businesses and service providers who have supported our organization and members.  See a partial list HERE.

Remembering Rhey Plumley

Rhey Plumley was one of the early driving forces in CVTU.  He passed away in 2024.  Read some of the tributes and recollections written by his friends - they embody much our Chapter's collective memory. See the collection HERE.

CVTU members support a variety of efforts and programs in the community.

Education:

CVTU supports about three dozen schools in Chittenden, Franklin and Addison counties , placing tanks, equipment and advice to help students raise baby trout for release in Vermont streams.  Starting with eggs from the state hatchery, kids nurture their fish til they're fingerlings, while learning important lessons about the environment, habitat and conservation.  Teachers can draw on a large library of lesson materials provided by TU's national Trout in the Classroom program, and CVTU members often serve as guest presenters on a range of topics.

CVTU supports this annual program sponsored by TU, providing in-depth exposure to the many rewards of fly fishing for Vermont teens ages 13-16.

Conservation:

  • Green Up Day - CVTU sponsors Green Up activities, bringing chapter volunteer together to work on clearing stream banks of trash and debris.  Cleanup work is often followed by shared food, fun and fishing.

  • CVTU volunteers help put "Boots on the Ground" in collaboration with partner organizations.

CVTU works to ensure that robust populations of native and wild coldwater fish continue to thrive throughout Northwest and Central Vermont. In doing so, we will maintain healthy fisheries for the enjoyment of future generations.
