Happy 2026!!

The New Year is here... We'll be sending out an e-mail update to the general membership shortly, but for those signed up here on the CVTU website, here's a sneak preview:

Drew Price, whose book "Favorite Flies for Vermont" found its way into a lot of holiday packages, will be our featured speaker on January 13, at the Doubletree. CVTU members and friends are very well represented among the tyers whose work appears in this great collection.

New Year, new regulations... Local media have reported on a number of the new regulations from Vermont Fish and Wildlife that went into effect with the new year. Many have to do with panfish and baitfish, but a few restrict spring angling in favorite streams to protect spawning fish. If you're looking forward to getting out with the early spring thaw, you'll want to take note:

  • The following waters are now closed to all fishing (including catch & release angling) from March 16 through May 31.

    • Chittenden County

      • Joiner Brook, Bolton - From the confluence of the Winooski River upstream approximately 1900 feet to the first falls.

      • Pinneo Brook, Bolton – From the confluence of the Winooski River upstream approximately 100 feet to the railroad crossing.

      • Preston Brook, Bolton - From the confluence of the Winooski River upstream approximately 2600 feet to the first falls.

    • Washington County

      • Chase Brook, Berlin – From its confluence with the Dog River upstream approximately ½ mile to the top of the natural falls in Berlin.

      • Ridley Brook, Duxbury – From the confluence of the Winooski River upstream approximately 1700 feet to the first falls.

Note that we've omitted streams in Orleans and Windsor counties in this post. You can find the whole Updated Fishing Regulations here.

Cheers!

CVTU works to ensure that robust populations of native and wild coldwater fish continue to thrive throughout Northwest and Central Vermont. In doing so, we will maintain healthy fisheries for the enjoyment of future generations.
